An Out of Body Experience
I got turned on to this recording by a friend who eats, sleeps and breathes the shows here on the archive. He has been coaxing me to check it out for several months now -- and after using it to fuel an all nighter, I can see why! Incredible stuff, and an awesome chronicle of a band I will be seeking out more in the future! Cheers!

While I am from Tucson, having spent some 25 years of my life there, and had heard of Calexico and how great they were countless times since around 1998ish or so, this show on the archive, believe it or not, was my first taste of this incredible band. Without being redundant in terms of all the other fantastic reviews this show has received, I highly recommend this one, folks. My favorite is the Fatal Spring > Close Behind. I think I have listened to that combo on repeat on and off consistently for the past week and a half. Download this one. Now.

Can't get any better than this
This show is an absolute MUST HAVE for users of this amazing site. My family (consisting of 1 dead-head, one hip-hop fan, and one who likes commercial pop music) all love this recording and haven't listened to anything else for about a week now. If you liked the sound track for the film Desperado, this has great cross over appeal, good beats, and fantastic sound quality--try it out or forever hold your peace.

Thought I would check them out after vaguely recalling Crystal Frontier from Jon Peel show on BBC some years back. Cannot praise the show and the crystal clear recording enough. Even perseverd through this tedious registration procedure to say so. For me track 10 was a highlight but I can't fast forward through any of it. Definitely 5 stars.

Thanks to the recordings here on the Archive and Calexico's offical live DVD, I've come to appreciate Calexico's live shows much more than their studio albums. This show is by far my favorite. The performances of everyone and especially Joey's vocals eclipse that of other live Calexico recordings I've heard, including the DVD. The audio quality is top notch. Thanks to the band and Jim Blackwood for making this performance available.

What else to say?
Just excellent. I figure the more 5 star ratings, the more likely people will be to listen to this show. And they should. !Viva Calexico!

An Outstanding Performance and Top Notch Recording
Before I heard this performance I was a peripheral fan of Calexico. I kinda liked their album "The Blacklight", but thought their most recent album "Feast of Wire" was a bit lifeless. The reccomendations for this show were glowing, so I thought I'd give it a try. WOAH! This is great stuff! A truly spirited performance. The vocals are SO much stronger than the album and the playing has such a fiery spark. I am not exaggerating when I say I have listened to this performance at least 50 times in the last 6 months. I cant get enough of it. The quality of the recording is astounding. It is rich with subtlety and detail. Worthy of official live album release.
What more can I say? Even if you only like this band a little bit, DOWNLOAD IT!!!

Will be Considered a Classic
The whole run of April 2003 shows in Europe by Calexico are great. This one, in particular, has a clean balance courtesy of Blackwood, and the musicians (the real stars) hit nary a wrong note. Joey in particular has good lungs on this one.
Highlights are "Across the Wire," "Close Behind," and "Guero Canelo".
Download and enjoy.

This is an AWESOME SHOW!
I have seen them play live several times. Their studio albums are fantastic, mind-expanding, genre-bending experiences (oh yeah, and his lyrics are among the best). But LIVE they take on a whole new dimension. Jazz... mariachi... pop... Spaghetti Western soundtrack... folk... country... all swirled together. This show displays that perfectly. And the sound quality is excellent.
This concert is such a treat. I am so delighted to own a LIVE calexico show. Thanks to the taper. Thanks to the archive!

If you're not familiar with Calexico, this is a great place to start. It's like south-west (with an emphasis on the mariachi) post-modern, psychedelic folk-rock.
This show has an excellent performance, song selection and sound quality. Knowing how rare live Calexico shows are, it makes this even more precious

Being from Arizona, this one holds a special place for me. Memories of home while living away. This is a terrific recording. As previously stated, the setlist is great, featuring a wide range from their releases. The sound is top-notch as well. Crystal clear but with the added "ambience' of an AUD recording. I can't recommend this show enough! If you've never heard Calexico before, this is a great place to start.

Calexico Is Numero Uno!!
This is one of the best bands to come around in a long, long time. check out this excellent show. then check out their new e.p., "convict pool". also don't miss their cover of alejandro escovedo's "wave" on the 2-cd set, "por vida, the songs of alejandro escovedo". the set also includes lucinda williams, steve earle, ian hunter, los lonely boys and many, many others. a wonderful tribute to a wonderfully special amigo.

Professional-sounding quality recording, top-notch music. The prior reviewer was right: if you haven't heard their music before, this recording will make you a fan.
More, please, Mr. Blackwood?

I was lucky enough to attend this show, and I have previously enjoyed a shorter version of this recording that was broadcast by P3 Live in Sweden.
This full version is even better in every aspect though.
Thank you P3, Jim and Calexico for making this available. It's perfect!

This is what a "matrix" recording should sound like. For my taste most matrix recordings wind up with a little too much audience and not enough SBD.
The performance on this show is top notch showing Calexico at the top of their game.
The quality of this show would be comparable to an official release. (IMHO)
If you are a fan you will love this recording and if you are not, you will be. Check it out.
Calexico is one of the most genuine and creative acts to creep onto my radar screen in a long time.
Thanks to P3 Live for providing the source and thanks to Jim & the band for setting this show free.

One of the best shows from the last few years!
Glad to be able to serve this one up for archive.org (etree).. One of the best Calexico shows in our archives. It was partially broadcast originally, but this is the first complete - prefm version to circulate (plus properly mastered). Enjoy this with the bands blessing!
